Mahogani Summer Concerts Chapter 7: Kreisler, Rachmaninoff, Liszt-Wagner & Schubert

On Wednesday the16th of August, at 20:15, the Mahogani team welcomes you to the seventh concert of our summer series 2023.
Violin virtuoso and composer Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) was good friends with piano virtuoso and composer Sergej Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). They performed many concerts together. To celebrate their friendship, the concert will start with two pieces from these two composers: ‘Liebesleid’ by Kreisler and ‘Vocalise’ by Rachmaninoff.
Next, we will dive into the emotion of longing with the climactic ‘Isoldes Liebestod’, the finale of the famous opera ‘Tristan und Isolde’ by Richard Wagner (1813-1883), transcribed for piano solo by Hungarian piano legend Franz Liszt (1811-1886).
Finally, we will return to more classical terrain with the third violin sonata in G minor by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). This beautiful piece in four movements will take you from a resolute beginning, through a romantic melody and dance-like movement to a victorious finale.
A feast of diversity, in other words, performed by our very own Dionysia Kazantzidi on violin and Duco Burgers on piano.
