On Wednesday the 19th of July, at 20:15, the Mahogani team welcomes you to the third concert of our summer series 2023.
Violinist Dionysia Kazantzidi and pianist Duco Burgers selected a
a diverse program fitting to these hot days.
To commemorate the 150th birthday of Rachmaninoff this year, you will hear his beautiful Mélodie opus 3 number 3. Rachmaninoff, himself a great pianist, took lessons amongst others with his cousin, Alexander Siloti. Siloti was a student of Franz Liszt, who called his student ‘Silottissimus’ because of his great technique. A very special compliment from the greatest virtuoso in piano history! To honor this direct heritage of Liszt, the program will start with two transcriptions of works of Bach by Siloti, the famous Air and the prelude in b minor.
The concert will continue with the sonatina for violin and piano by Antonin Dvořák, a piece in four movements. Dvořák wrote this sonatina when he was in New York, thinking of his children. Allegedly, he started writing the third movement on the sleeve of his shirt! The result is a joyful and spectacular piece, ‘appropriate for all ages’, again according to Dvořák.
Enjoy a nice cocktail with this special recital!
